HIM HOUSING

HIM has 6 housing units under Charleston
Housing's Moderate Rehabilitation Program,
which is unit based assistance (a family has
assistance as long as they reside in a unit).
HIM has 6 apartments of varying
sizes. Currently we have two 1 bedroom units available.
Our housing units have undergone recent improvements;
However, there is always something to do to keep the units HUD approved and up to HIM standards. If you would like to help with
any of these, or for information concerning available units [contact us].

The issue of homelessness is no longer a marginalized problem that can be ignored by the majority of the population. The issue has risen to near epidemic proportions in the Charleston area as well as many areas of the country. While there is much discussion on the topic by local and federal agencies, there is little movement toward finding a solution, as so many of the homeless are also drug-addicted or carrying the weight of a criminal act (felony) with them. Whereas current HUD regulations have loosened on the issue of supplying adequate proof of housing for the prior three years, they remain strict on issues of drug addiction and criminality.Therein lies the rub; the impasse; the impossible dream for so many homeless individuals and families.
While many agencies have been created to help with recovery first so that these people can apply for housing, it is very difficult for the affected to complete these programs while struggling day to day with the horrors of homelessness.
At HIM we believe we can assist all those agencies by providing many of the marginalized persons and families with houses first. It is our hope to secure funding and partnerships to erect 10-15 tiny houses on our vacant lot.
